Chapter 9 ( Monique Proverbs)
In chapter 9 Kolbert talks about her trip to the Reserve 1202, she says that it’s almost perfect and has 25 acres of trees. This reserve was apart of Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project. ( BDFFP) . In Barazil rachers were cutting down trees to raise cows. When scientists found out about it they explained to ranchers the danger of chopping down trees and they agreed to stop in the end this is how the reserve was created. This is like deforestation when people chop down trees and destroy habitats for birds. Kolbert went to the reserve with Mario Cohn- Haft. Mario identified all the birds in the reserves by call and that is how he tracked the different species. They then traveled to Camp 41 and saw many different insect species. She also saw many ants and found out that this is where butterflies got their food from. This connects to chapter 8 when Silman talked about better reserves for plants and animals. How many other reserves are like this in the world?
