Chapter 2 (Monique Proverbs)
In chapter 2 fossils of a Mastodon are found and it is displayed in Paris. Finding the bar raised many questions on its past and where it came from. Through observations from the scientists, the fossil resembles “an elephant and a hippopotamus”. While reading this I immediately thought of evolution and maybe the elephant and hippopotamus recieved traits of the massadone. Cuvier, a scientists, didn’t believe that an animal could evolve. He did however believe in extinction and believed that this animal had to be extinct by a catastrophe. My question was could this catastrophe be the same one that killed all the dianasours? In further reading , Lamarck who is a person who closely studies the anatomy and he believes in evolution. Both Cuvier and Larmarck are correct there is evolution and extinction. My prediction and question for other chapters would be what caused the fossil to evolve.
