Chapter 1 (Jalen Jones)

Chapter 1 is based in a town known as El Valle de Anton, in Panama. This town was known for its gold
frog population. When the frogs began to disappear, nobody really noticed. That was until they were all
gone. Now, unlike other extinctions, this one wasn’t caused by man. A bacteria known as
Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis had caused the frogs to have a heart attack and inevitably die.
The entire time I read this chapter, I thought about a frog that you see in Puerto Rico named the coqui.
This frog has been endangered for many years and shows a big problem in Puerto Rico. Due to the
deforestation by the United States, these frogs have no habitats and continue to die. Like on page 12 in
chapter 1, people were reluctant to believe that these frogs have gone missing.
