Chapter Nine (Sarah)
On islands, there tends to be less biodiversity and different types of species. This is due to the limited amount of area and habitats. Some animals and plants will not be able to survive in or adapt to the restricted conditions. It is also hard for them to move to a different location since if they are on a island and are most likely surrounded by water and may not be able to travel long distances. The chapter also mentions how an extinction can start off small in a certain region but then grow on to reach a global scale. The effects of climate change are also not helping since it is continuing to limit the number of habitats. Would the population of species on island grow if moved, or could they act as an invasive species and hurt other animals?
