Chapter Eleven (Sarah)
The chapter mentions two of the main theories about the causes of mass extinction which are climate change and humans. I think both climate change and humans are both the main causes of extinction. Climate change can affect an ecosystem by changing the temperature and climate and some species may not be able to adapt and will go extinct. Humans also add to this by burning fossil fuels which further adds to the effects of climate change, deforestation, and the addition of invasive species. There is also trophy hunting. This is decreasing species since people are killing, often illegally, animals to gain certain parts and sell them for high prices not really caring about what it might do to the environment. I find it interesting that the authors describe zoos as a safe place even though people often dislike them since they feel like they are abusing animals and removing their natural instincts since they are taking them away from the wild.
