Chapter 6 Abudul Gaku

Chapter 6 of the book opens up with an introduction of Castello Argonese, an island in the Tyrrehnian Sea. The island is the product of the pressure between the African and the Eurasian tectonic plates . This also releases carbon dioxide, which is what Kolbert visits Castello Argonese to investigate. There, Kolbert meets two marine biologists named Jason Spencer and Marina Cristina Buia. Kolbert scuba dives and is shown big green bubbles rising from vents at the sea floor. There is very little to no sea life in the area. This is the bi product of human actions. Dating back to the Industrial Revolution, many fossil fuels have been burned and increased the concentration of carbon in the air. This is all contributing to global warming and the changing of sea levels. These events are affecting the marine life and the acidification of the oceans. All of this has made me thing about how humans are affecting the earth in negative ways. How can we realistically find alternatives to fossil fuels without sacrificing the pace of productivity?
