Prologue (Sarah)

In the prologue, the author starts off by talking about when humans were first created and didn't have much of an impact on the world and their surroundings. Their were different species of animals and plants that could probably kill off humans if they had evolved or didn't go extinct. The author mentions how humans started to migrate and bring and take resources with them as they traveled. This provided access to new materials that weren't available to certain people in other regions of the world. This was beneficial to people but did hurt some ecosystems since humans did bring new species that provided competition that may have not been needed and they also brought diseases that killed animals. Human also destroyed habitats, an example of this can be with deforestation. By cutting down trees for things like lumber, they are taking homes away from animals like birds.

The author believes humans will be he cause of the sixth mass extinction because of how badly they are hurting the environment. Humans are adding to the effects of climate change by burning fossil fuels. One effect climate change has on animals is that it can melt ice and glaciers in the arctic which can hurt arctic animals such as polar bears since their homes are being destroyed due to the increasing temperatures.
