Chapter 1 (Sarah)

During the first chapter, the author talks about the golden frogs in Panama and their presence. They could be found everywhere in Panama and were something that people used to see daily. But eventually they started to go extinct and could no longer be found quite as easily. It was hard for people to believe, probably because its hard for people to believe something that used to be there is gone. The golden frogs and many other frogs that are going extinct are kept at EVACC where they can be preserved.

To me, the most surprising thing to me is that frogs are going extinct due to a type of fungus, Bd, and not due to humans. I thought the frogs were going extinct due to something like humans taking away resources or destroying habitats. Another thing that I found interesting is that the people at EVACC are only looking for certain types of frogs. Like when they found a horned marsupial frog, I didn't think the gender of the frog didn't really matter but I guess it does. Does that mean only certain species are important and worth saving?
